A Microsoft funded project in association with UK Youth for which In The Mix was a delivery partner in 2017 and 2018. Generation Code addressed the lack of computer science skills in young people, empowering them to become digital creators in an ever-changing global society. Generation Code is a programme dedicated to igniting interest in computer science in young people and allowing them to gain a basic understanding of coding and digital platforms inspiring them to create and explore the digital world. The project provided young people with the necessary skills to working within an ever-demanding digital world including coding and ICT skills.
Young digital champions worked alongside youth worker to design a programme to deliver to youth organisations and schools across Somerset. Young leaders were able to develop facilitation skills, team work and computer skills. Participants were able to understand the basics of coding, look at future tech ideas and the opportunities for developing skills in the computing sector.
UK Youth facilitated in partnership with Microsoft several training and ‘hackathon’ events in London which young people attended. These events brought together youth workers, young people, and tech experts from across the UK to celebrate and inspire young people.
