The Big Music Project was an exciting project funded by Global Radio in association with UK Youth.
The programme supported young people to build employability skills and take their first steps in the creative industries. Delivery partners were sought to work with local groups of young people interested in developing a wide range of creative musical and performance skills ranging from singing to DJing through to musicianship alongside employability skills in creative industries.
In The Mix Project was involved in the final tranche of this national programme and worked with groups across Taunton Deane through local schools and music groups. As part of the program young people were required to participate as young leaders, branded as champions and had the opportunity to participate in teaching peers.
The young people learnt musical programmes, industry insider knowledge and organised a number of performances across the area including open mic nights, radio shows and community entertainments events.
The group of young people gained a tremendous amount of new skills and experiences from this programme utilising their existing musical talents. They gained confidence and resilience to go further and pursue a career or additional hobby through music related activity.
