A BRIEF History

In the Mix Project is an organisation which grew out of the reduction in statutory services in 2010. We established a Community Interest Company (CIC) in 2011, founding members previously living and working in the area, providing statutory youth work services. We are now a registered charity having transitioned in March 2015 from our originating structure. The organisation was originally created  safeguard youth work and to combat the reduction in services and support communities and young people in the areas of the Somerset West and Taunton, including rural provisions. We are a local organisation, based in Somerset, now providing youth and community provision, targeted programmes, workshops and positive activities to disadvantaged children and young adults across the area and in neighbouring counties.

Our youth work portfolio includes: UK Youth Parliament delivery, outdoor pursuits, community cafe, sports and health projects, schools support services, Somerset young carers, media and film workshops, and universal youth club programmes. We’ve also supported various events, partnering with parish/town councils, the police, community organisations, business groups, play groups, schools and other providers to enable community action events and activity days.

We have also partnered with UK Youth and other agencies delivering funded projects including: ICT digital and coding workshops, creative music and arts project, money management sessions & road safety programmes. We have also been involved in establishing, running and supporting youth provision in several other communities including; Galmington, Milverton, Lydeard St. Lawrence, Tolland, Wiveliscombe, Norton Fitzwarren, Fitzhead, Chipstable, Bishops Lydeard, Stawley, Ashbrittle, West Bagborough, Wellington, as well as Cotford St. Luke and Taunton.
