We've Got this - peer mentor programme

We’ve Got This is a peer mentoring programme supporting young people aged 16–18 across Somerset who are currently waiting for CAMHs support.  

Our mentors at In The Mix can offer you 1-2-1 support over a number of sessions. This can be done at our centre, out in the community, or online or be a mix of support. Mentors will help you to talk openly about what you’re feeling and experiencing, explore ideas and approaches to support you make personal and positive changes in your life. To connect with others and strengthen your sense of belonging, to support you to recognise your strengths and what’s going well. And build up self-esteem and confidence to support you feel more hopeful about the future.

What our peer mentors are not:
  • Counselling – We can help to signpost you to local counselling services, but we are not  a counselling service.
  • Therapy – Our mentors are experts by experience, but not trained therapists.
  • Statutory provision – While we work very closely with statutory services and the local authority, this support is quite different.
Partnerships
Somerset Active Sports Partnership spearhead this project are are the lead organisation for We’ve Got This, which is funded by NHS Charities Together. Other partners included Fuse Performance, Young Somerset, Equischolars, 2BU Somerset, and the Minehead Eye.
In The Mix’s Offer
We can support young people who have an interest in a wide variety of areas including creativity and design, food and cooking, wood work and outdoor learning, physical health and more. We provide a safe. welcoming space to explore different pathways to positive futures.
 
In The Mix supports young people across Somerset to reach their full potential. We provide safe, welcoming, and inclusive spaces where you can build confidence and self-esteem, learn new skills, and have your voice heard. Our team delivers a range of activities, designed to support young people develop their social and emotional skills, and help them connect, grow, and thrive.
 
Mentors
Each mentor draws on their own lived experience and personal interests to support young people, helping them strengthen their self-worth and build positive social networks within chosen community groups, settings, and activities. We will help to explore activities, to try out new things and support you each step. We will represent you while supporting you to find your voice for yourself. Our goal is to support you to feel more empowered with your own mental health, and to equip you to be able to support yourself.
