Our Success Stories

We have worked with several young people who’ve, from our support and involvement in youth work, gone on to volunteer, take lead roles working with young people or used their experiences for college or employment.

JO

Jo joined us in 2014 as an apprentice with Somerset Skills and Learning. Jo undertook a years worth of training with In The Mix Project learning the ropes and gaining skills as part of her children and social care course. Following successful completion, Jo stayed with us working in a variety or roles as a youth worker and continues to do so and is a valued member of the team.
NICK
Nick was a young person involved in our leadership and outdoor programmes in 2008/09, at the age of 18 Nick joined the team as a volunteer eventually undertaking his level 3 in youth work qualification and paid roles. Nick has supported in a variety of roles within the organisation and even helped kick start In The Mix back in 2011.

PHIL

Phil engaged with us as a young person at Kingsmead School, undertaking work experience with us in 2014, and sticking around as a young volunteer afterwards. Phil eventually worked towards a traineeship in a primary school and volunteering with us, and now works in the sector as a outreach worker for Reach Youth in Somerset.
JAMIE
Jamie got involved in the youth cafe in 2009 attending regular sessions and then working as a young volunteer and undertaking a leaders training programme. Jamie has supported several events and programmes including; Fundraising, Cafe Random, the Microsoft Hub and Young Volunteers. Jamie undertook work experience with us and continued to volunteer with In The Mix. Jamie went on college and then to university in Cardiff.

TERRI-MARIE
Terri - Marie Joyner & her County Award 1
Terri-Marie was a young person at Norton Fitzwarren Youth Project 2008, actively engaged in supporting the club and staff and helping to plan sessions and trips, undertaking a residential to Scotland and Cornwall. Terri-Marrie was awarded a County Award for her involvement at the project and her supportive role.
ISAAC
Isaac first got involved in The Big Music Project in 2018 at Court Fields school, going on to undertake a work experience placement with us learning skills in youth work, event planning and administration. Isaac has recently completed a UK Youth Bronze Youth Achievement Award with us and continues to be involved as a young volunteer in The Core Network.

EMMA

Emma got involved with us as a young carer in 2008, eventually ending up in our Outdoor Pursuits Group and undertaking leadership and teamwork training. Emma supported in the role of a Key Member, helping with events and residentials. She went on to college in south Devon to do an Outdoor Education instructor course. Emma still occasionally volunteers with us.
JONATHAN
Jonathan joined us as part of a government funded access to work programme in 2017 for work experience and skills development. During his time with us he improved his functional skills, gained confidence and undertook new experiences in event planning, youth participation and developmental programming. Jonathan supported our youth cafe and music programmes, Jonathan support various community events as well as the Somerset Time 4 Youth Group in Highbridge & Burnham on Sea.

HAYLEY

Hayley, who has cerebral palsy, was involved with us in 2007 joined our D of E group learning vital social, leadership and team skills as well as experiences in the outdoors including cooking, planning and safety. Hayley didn’t let her disability stop her from being involved, continuing to work with us, building on her experiences and skills and as a senior member, supporting her peers, and building friendships. She went on to secure a job with The Co-op using her skills working with customers.
TORMEY
Tormey recently joined us in late 2021 as part of the KickStart scheme to support with our marketing and communication within our central team. Tormey has had the opportunity to engage in our other services to support develop his skills and broaden his horizons including undertaking a Youth Achievement Award. Tormey has been engaged in training and development experiences to support his professional development and develop his soft skills to support him into the world of employment.
